Age Divisions

MINI - Ages 6 & under

PETITE - Ages 7-9

JUNIOR - Ages 10-12

TEEN - Ages 13-15

SENIOR - Ages 16-19

SOLOS

Dancer’s age is determined by their birthdate and age as of January 1st.


ALL DUET/TRIOS + GROUPS

Each dancer's age is determined by their birthdate and age as of January 1st and averaged. Drop the decimal.

Types of Entries and Time Limits

  • SOLOS - 1 dancer, 2:45 minutes maximum ​

  • DUETS + TRIOS - 2 or 3 dancers, 2:45 minutes maximum ​

  • ​​SMALL GROUPS - 4-9 dancers, 3:15 minutes â€‹

  • LARGE GROUPS - 10-19 dancers, 4:00 minutes maximum â€‹ 

  • SUPER GROUPS â€‹- 20+ dancers, 4:30 minutes maximum â€‹

  • PRODUCTION - 15+ dancers, 8:00 minutes maximum

Levels

ULTIMATE

Dancers who take 6 or more hours of dance classes per week. Ultimate is the highest level of competition.

COMPETITIVE

Dancers who take 3-6 hours of dance per week with limited competition experience. 

PERFORMANCE

Dancers who take less than 3 hours of dance classes per week. Best level for those new to competing.

SHOOTING STARS

A level for dancers with special needs or disabilities.

*Dancer levels are at the discretion of each dance studio, owner and or director. 

Ultimate Dance Tour Categories

Contemporary: Combination of lyrical, modern and jazz styles with a focus on technical elements, unexpected movements and expressions. 

Lyrical: Performance that demonstrates balance, extension, fluidity and control, while showing strong emotions. 

Jazz : Routine of primarily jazz technique. 

Musical Theater: Performance featuring any style of dance from a Broadway show, movie or television show. 

Hip Hop: Routine consisting of street style of hip hop technique. 

Tap: Performance featuring syncopated rhythms while using tap shoes. 

Clogging: Routine consisting of traditional or contemporary clogging technique. 

Liturgical: Routine that includes music and movement as a form of worship. 

Ballet: Ballet technique that includes formal classical movements. 

Pointe: Classical ballet technique with the use of pointe shoes. 

Modern: A free, expressive style of dance using true modern dance techniques. 

Character: Routine that portrays a recognizable character throughout. 

Open: Any category or combination of categories listed. 

Acro: Routine consists of controlled acrobatic tricks.

 

**No limit for acro tricks as long as the majority of the routine is made up of dance technique. 

Music

Studios are required to upload all music online after completing registration. Music must be uploaded 2 weeks prior to the scheduled competition. We ask that you bring a back up option (iPod , iPhone or iPad). We will NOT be able to play music from CDs. 

Props

  • No Liquid, paint gel, aerosol, glitter, fog, smoke, powder, paint powder, ashes or similar substances that would affect the dancing surface is allowed unless specifically approved by Ultimate Dance Tour. If this occurs, the routine may be scored lower by judges or disqualified.

  • Props are allowed as long as they are free standing. Scenery or backdrops requiring the use of theater fly system may not be used. If props are used, they must be prepared, set up and removed quickly. •

    • Helium Balloons are not permitted unless permission is given from specific venue.

  • For safety purposes, all props have a maximum of 12 feet tall. Dancers may only stand on props NO HIGHER than 5'10"tall.

  • No Human props. A human prop is a person acting as a prop and one that can be seen clearly by the

    audience but does not dance with the group. Human props may pay as a participant and will be

    averaged into the age level of the group.

  • Props may not be plugged in. Plugging in props could cause a fuse to be blown delaying the

    competition.
