CHRISTEN BERNAL

Christen began her dance training at the age of three which led her to graduate with a BFA in Dance Performance from East Carolina University. During her time at ECU, Christen was selected to work with artists in residence such as, Mark Haim, Jennifer Archibald and David Dorfman and also collaborated with companies including River North Dance Chicago and David Dorfman Dance. In New York City, Christen performed with Cat Cogliandro’s CATASTROPHE, Teddy Tedholm, Dionna PridGeon, Mike Esperanza, Monica Hogan Danceworks and BalaSole Dance Company. Her choreography has been showcased across the city, including at the Alvin Ailey Citigroup Theater, J. Chen Translate series at the Dixon Place, as well as in Jersey City at the American College Dance Festival. Christen has taught at prestigious studios including Millenium Dance Complex Philadelphia and Broadway Dance Center in New York City, where she worked for CTP classes. In fall 2014, she served as the artist-in-residence at Salve Regina University in Rhode Island, teaching master classes and choreographing pieces for selected dancers. She further honed her skills in the Gypsy Project, under the guidance of Erica Sobol, Jiri Pokorny, Tilman O’Donnell, and other notable guest artists. While based in Los Angeles, Christen performed for choreographers such as Erica Sobol, Juliette Irons and Teddy Tedholm along with presenting work for Ellenore Scott’s Breaking Glass: LA. With over a decade of teaching experience, Christen has worked with dancers of all ages and levels, from preschoolers to professionals and has choreographed for recreational, competitive and professional dancers. Her work has received numerous accolades including top overall awards, choreography awards and highest scores of the day.
